This section contains references of the most important monographic treatments, keys and other publications of interest for both professionals and amateurs.

Valuable and amply illustrated monograph of the boletes with pores. Many of the taxonomic decisions are now out-of-date, but this is one of the first books trying to cover the bolete diversity in the southern parts of Europe. Valuable addition if not a necessity to anybody trying to get further in bolete studies.

Breitenbach J. & Kränzlin F. 1991. Pilze der Schweiz. Bd. 3(1). Röhrlinge und Blätterpilze. Verlag Mykologia, Luzern.

Contains threatment of the boletes and their allies of the Swiss mycota. As the other volumes in this series, the book is amply illustrated. As a local treatment it does not include southern species of boletes, but nonetheless it is highly recommendable. English and French editions are also available. Available in the Bookstore.

Den Bakker, H.C. & Noordeloos, M.E. 2005. A revision of European species of Leccinum Gray and notes on extralimital species. – Persoonia 18: 511–587.

The most recent revision of the European members of this difficult genus in Europe. It is definitively a must have for anybody interested the European boletes.

One of the first recent attempts for monographic treatment of the listed genera. Although many of its taxonomic decisions are now out-of-date, this book is indispensable item in any boletologist’s library.

A key of the European boletes in French. The taxonomic scheme for some genera is out of date, but it is still a must have for professional boletologists.

Out of any doubt this is one of the many most valuable books on the European boleti. Amply illustrated with high quality colour photographs, it is definitively one of the essentials for any boletologist. Two more recent editions are available, see below. Classical publication on the boletes of Belgium, recommendable for any professional boletologist.

Another publication of the authors on the boletes, recommendable for professional boletologists.

Kallenbach, F. 1926. Die Röhrlinge (Boletaceae). – In: Die Pilze Mitteleuropas. Bd. 1. Pp. 1–158+Tabs 1–55. W. Klinkhardt, Leipzig.

One of the first books devoted solely on the European boletes. It was printed as separate fascicles and remained unfinished due to unfortunate death of the author. Nowadays seen in the larger public libraries. Containing ample descriptions and superb colour plates it is highly recommendable addition to the library of any advanced boletologist.

Kibby, G. 2011. British boletes with keys to species. Published by the author, London.

This is the most recent account on the British boletes, but it also presents most of the European species. Useful keys supplemented by synthetic descriptions and suitable illustrations. A must have for any boletologist. More detailed review is available here.

Excellent local monographic treatment, one of the few of its kind. The book provides keys, descriptions and distribution maps of the boletes with pores and their lamellate allies of this German province. Nearly all of the Central- and West-European boletes are included. Amply illustrated, this book is always useful for people tackling boletes. Available in the Bookstore.

Classical book, containing keys for determination of the boletes. Definitively highly recommendable for professional taxonomists’ libraries.

This pictorial atlas is real rarity, but a must have for any indebted boletologists.

Ladurner, H. & Simonini, G. 2003. Xerocomus s.l. – In: Fungi Europaei. Vol. 8. Pp. 1527. Edizioni Candusso, Alassio.

The most recent treatment of this extremely difficult and perplexed genus. The book contains an extensive chapters on the taxonomically important characters and the methodology of study of the xerocomoid boletes, keys and descriptions of the European species. Written in parallel text in Italian and English. Definitively a must have. Available in the Bookstore.

Lannoy, G. & Estadès, A. 1995. Monographie des Leccinum d’Europe. Fédération Mycologique Dauphiné-Savoie.

Recent monograph of this extremely difficult genus. The most recent monographic treatment of the genus (see Den Bakker & Noordeloos 2005) rejected many of the species recognized by Lannoy & Estadès, but nonetheless this book would be a valuable addition to the libraries of those who want to go further in the Leccinum-studies.

One of the most recent monographs on the European boletes with pores. The book does not include the xerocomoid boletes, treated in another volume of Fungi Europaei (see Ladurner & Simonini 2003). As all the other books in this series the volume contains keys, ample descriptions of the species in question and countless superb colour photographs, microphotographs and drawings. Definitively a must have for any boletologist, both amateurs and professionals. Available in the Bookstore.

One of the first keys of the European boletes. It is an old book, of interest mostly for professional taxonomists.

A magnificient attempt of the authors to collect all the information about the boletes, available at that time. Valuable reference book containing many descriptions printed in previous editions, many of which difficulty accessed nowadays.

An excellent colour atlas of boletes. Contains high quality photographs and descriptions of most European boleti, including some rare and little known species, some of them recently described by the authors. As the book targets mostly the local community in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, it is written in Czech, which makes it a bit difficult to use for people not familiar with slavonic languages. Nonetheless it is a valuable addition to any boletological library.

The classical treatment of the British boleti, indispensable for anybody indebted in the bolete studies. An updated version is published recently, see Watling & Hills (2005).

Watling, R. 2009. A manual and source book on the boletes and their allies. – In: Synopsis Fungorum. Vol. 24. Pp. 1–248. Fungiflora, Oslo.

Extremely valuable book where the world-known boletologist Roy Watling summarizes decades of his experience in bolete studies, reflecting the modern view for these fungi. The book contains keys to the genera of Boletales and detailed circumscription of all the genera in this group of fungi, supplemented by the ample comments of the author. The only other thing to say is that no one who is planning to deal with boletes should miss having this invaluable volume. Available in the Bookstore.
